Seated Exercise
- When: Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:30 – 11:15am.
- Where: Senior Center
- Description: Stretch, build strength, and increase flexibility without ever leaving your chair! Using small hand weights and resistance bands, participants are reminded to do only what is comfortable and pain-free as they learn that “motion is lotion” in keeping joints and muscles moving well. Tuesday classes are taught by Donna Green, RN; Friday classes are taught by Ray Blouin or Jeri Schaff. This class is specifically geared to older adults, including those with balance or mobility limitations. New members are welcome at any time.
Walking
Walking is a tremendous exercise as it is both a weight bearing exercise (as you are carrying your own weight) and can be done at a pace that also qualifies as aerobic exercise. In good weather, we often take walks in downtown Buena Vista. We split into two groups, one for those who use canes or walkers or may need a little extra time, and one for those who are comfortable walking for 30 minutes unassisted. Each group is supervised, and our walks not only provide exercise that strengthens bones, muscles, hearts and lungs, but also give us a change of scenery and a chance to do a little window shopping!
Fitness Room
Our Fitness Room boasts four treadmills, two gravity gliders, a recumbent (sitting) stepper, and a recumbent (sitting) elliptical walking machine. The Fitness Room is open from 8:30am until 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
After obtaining approval from your health care provider, using a form we provide, and receiving training in the proper and safe operation of the equipment, participants may use the equipment on their own at any time the Fitness Room is open. For those who feel more comfortable having someone observe their exercise, Ray Blouin offers supervised use of the fitness machines on Fridays from 9:30 – 10:30am.
Whether you come once a week or every day, to exercise for weight loss, to continue your cardiac rehabilitation, or just to build bone, muscle and heart strength, there is no charge to use the Fitness Room equipment.
