KITTY BROWN has served on the Council for one year. She came to the Lexington area in 1989 and became Executive Director of Rockbridge Area Relief Association (RARA) in 1996. Kitty is active in her church, Manly Memorial Baptist and is a member of the local Poverty Commission. She enjoys spending time with family and friends.

LUCY EVANS FERREBEE is a Buena Vista native who lived in New York for 45 years. A Council member for 5 years, Lucy enjoys volunteering with MRSC and many other local groups. She also serves as a member of the Valley Program for Aging Services Board of Directors.

LEONA FURR has served on the Council for 2 years. Leona retired from VMI as a seamstress with 27 years of service. A West Virginia transplant, Leona volunteers as the instructor for The Mrs C’s Kickers line dancers.

ALICE HAMILTON is a Rockbridge Country resident who is retired from Stonewall Jackson Home Health. Alice is active in the Lexington Moose Lodge, and she and her husband have four children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She enjoys attending the Senior Center, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.

STEVE JEWELL has been executive director since 1999 for Kendal at Lexington, a not-for-profit Quaker related retirement community. Steve has been in the field of senior services for 20 years. Steve and his wife Beth (Registered Nurse for Lexington City Schools) and three sons relocated to Lexington from Virginia Beach. When not working to transform the experience of aging, Steve enjoys hiking with his two golden retrievers, kayaking without them, gardening and reading.

LARRY MARTIN is one of the original MRSC Local Council members, a VICAP volunteer counselor, and a member of Mrs C’s Singers. He is a retired federal government employee and moved to Rockbridge County from Maryland.

ALINE MCKENNA is a transplant from New Jersey, having lived here for 12 years. Aline and her husband John were involved in the restaurant business. She is an active gardener and now runs the Gardening program at the MRSC as a volunteer. Aline has been on the Council 4 years.

PAT OHLEGER owns the Buena Vista wine shop, Uncorked. She is very active in the community and is chairman of both the Regional Tourism board and Celebrate Buena Vista, a trustee for Historic Lexington Foundation, and a member of the City of Buena Vista’s Park Commission.

CHUCK PHILLIPS is a long-time Lexington resident who taught at Washington and Lee University for 44 years, and served as Mayor of Lexington for 17 years. Known for his dedication as a local volunteer, Chuck has served on the Council for 4 years and is the local representative to the Valley Program for Aging Services Advisory Council.

ROBERT RICE has served on the Council for one year. A Glasgow resident, Robert is retired from the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, is President of the Glasgow Ruritan Club, and is a volunteer Meals on Wheels driver.

MARTIN STOKES, a 1974 graduate of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, has served as pastor of New Monmouth Presbyterian Church in Lexington since 1996. He and Jane graduated together from King College and were married in 1969. They have four children. Martin has served on the Council for three years.

IRMA THOMPSON, a lifelong resident of Buena Vista, is retired from the Buena Vista School System. Irma is active in her church and community and serves on the Buena Vista Planning Commission, the MRSC Council, and is an active member of the committee to restore and renovate the Buena Vista Colored School building located on 30th Street.
